Bio
Dr. Petr Kavan is a Medical Oncologist, Associate Professor Department of Oncology and Medicine McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He is the Director of Clinical Research Program Program LDI JGH, Director of the McGill Adolescent and Yong Adults Cancer Program, Co-director GI Oncology Rosy Cancer Network McGill and CCTG NCIC McGill representative.
Dr. Kavan is a leader and an active participant in the clinical research in GI cancer, and more specifically colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer and neuroendocrine tumors. Dr. Kavan is also involved in many clinical trials for new anti-cancer drugs and represents institution at the CCTG NCIC helping to conduct clinical trials within McGill University network, Quebec and rest of Canada.
His other research interest includes improving the quality of life and supportive care services available to AYAs diagnosed with cancer.
Dr. Kavan loves teaching and currently supervises and trains many Oncology residents in his GI and AYA clinics at the Jewish General Hospital.
His honors and awards include: Czech Ministry of Health Award; the Josef Hlavka Literary Award for the Book of the Year: Bone Marrow Transplantation, and an Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Award 2010 for lectures and publications. He has also presented at 93 invited lectures within the European Union, the U.S.A. and other international meetings; and more than 130 lectures in Canada since 2007. Dr. Kavan also has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and 227 poster presentations since 2005, and 5 monographies and 5 CME educational programs. Dr. Kavan is a member of many national and international cancer organizations, including ASCO and ESMO. He also serves as a reviewer of publications, presentations and grants.
